TODAY’S PATENT – SWITCH FOR CONTROLLING DOOR LOCKS
In today’s patent, we will talk about Dieter Reichert’s invention, “Switch for controlling door locks” (US4065812A), which was patented by the USPTO on 3rd January 1978.
The present invention relates to a switch for controlling door locks, which comprises of a non-rotatable locking cylinder case and a lock cylinder that can be rotated from the outside by inserting a door key. It also consists of a resetting spring for returning the locking cylinder to the neutral position from the “open” and “closed” positions. Such door locks are typically used by automobiles, trailers, trucks, and sometimes of motorcycles, front doors of houses, etc.
As there is a growing trend of using security systems to prevent unauthorized use, they also succumb to several disadvantages such as
- They are costly.
- They must be actuated separately when leaving the car, e.g. by pressing a switch, which can be forgotten.
- In practice, the systems are only suitable for certain types of cars.
- A special key is required in place of the original key.
The main objective of the present invention is to overcome these disadvantages and provide an actuating switch that is cheap, does not require special handles or grips for actuation, and is capable of meeting all space requirements. They can be used on door locks that close on both the left and right sides, irrespective of whether the locks are provided with a locking cylinder having a substantially flat inner face
