TODAY’S PATENT – PRINTING METHOD AND APPARATUS

This invention was invented by Masaki Nishiyama and was assigned to canon Inc. On 7th June 1995 which was later granted with utility patent on 18th February 1997 by the USPTO bearing the grant number. US5604844A. The invention relates to a printing apparatus that can feed paper without going into an off-line state to initiate printing action.

The apparatus has an on-line mode and an off-line mode. In the on-line mode, receives data from a host computer and executes data printing onto a recording medium based on the received data. the invention comprises of an automatic paper feeder & a ink jet printer. The apparatus can perform memory storage to identify information that are feeded into it. it is used on the base whether printing is being done for a paper feed activity. Even in the online mode, the paper feed is enabled when printing is not being done, eliminating the need for a pointless key operation. Additionally, a paper discharge stop function is available, a line feed key is set to be the same key as a paper discharge key, and thus allows for a significant amount of line feeding to be accomplished with less keystrokes.
