TODAY’S PATENT – POWER TRANSMISSION

In today’s patent, we will discuss  Jeffrey P. Cherry (Rochester, MI), Melvin A. Rode (Bloomfield, MI), Gene Y. Wen (Troy, MI)’s invention, “POWER TRANSMISSION” (US4745744A), which was patented by the USPTO on May 24,1988.

The present invention is directed to electro hydraulic servo systems of the type which include a plurality of electro hydraulic devices coupled to a remote central or master controller. In the following invention An electro hydraulic system which includes a plurality of electro hydraulic devices individually controlled by microprocessor-based control electronics. A central controller for coordinating operation among the various devices includes a host controller for providing low speed serial and/or parallel output of control signals, and a master controller having a low speed serial and parallel I/O port for connection to the host controller, and a high speed serial I/O port connected by a full duplex bidirectional data bus in common to all of the device controllers. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the low speed I/O port of the master controller includes an RS232 serial communications port, and the high speed I/O port of the master controller comprises an RS485 serial communications port.
