PATENT OF THE WEEK – DOOR SUICIDE ALARM
The present invention is a door alarm system that shall activate when a door is closed with something unusual by a person. The inventor of this product is Francis E. Cook and was filed for patent on December 5, 2011 & later granted on 5th March 2013 by the USPTO with patent number USRE44039E1.
The invention relates to door alarms, which will notify authorized personnel if a person is behind the door and is blocking a door with something. For example in a hospital a patient committing suicide, in this case, if the patient is blocking the door the alarm will start ringing and will notify personnel. The alarm system has a pressure-sensitive switch mounted to the door on the top. The alarm can be both visual or an audio alarm that is to be hanged or kept outside the room of the patient. The switch is connected with the alarm. So, when the switch detects some pressure along its length it will automatically transmit a signal to activate the alarm system. This invention can save lots of patients lives in a mental hospital from committing suicide.
