TODAY’S PATENT – BATTERY-POWERED SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
The said invention (US7757925B2) was invented by Frank J Viola, Gregg Krehel, and Guido Pedros. It was patented by USPTO on July 20th, 2010. Currently, it stands assigned Covidien LP.
The present idea pertains to a surgical stapler that includes an enhanced, internally operated drive mechanism. The stapler has a handle assembly consisting of a fixed handle and a trigger. These components are coupled to a power cell responsible for activating a motor. A channel supports the staple cartridge in the stapler. The actuation sled pushes staples from the cartridge when aligned with the anvil. This design is accurate and easy to use since it takes little physical power.
Unlike previous iterations that may depend on external sources of electricity or pneumatic mechanisms, this stapler is self-contained and self-sustaining, making it both small and disposable. The integration of the power cell, motor, and cam mechanism in the stapler improves efficiency and usability, making it a precise and easy-to-use surgical stapling instrument.
