TODAY’S PATENT – COVER FOR GOLF BAG THROAT STRUCTURE

This was invented by Gary E. Keller (Mesa, AZ), Gregory M. Suggs (Phoenix, AZ), John A. Solheim (Phoenix, AZ), and Nip T. Lim (Phoenix, AZ). It was patented by the USPTO on March 26, 1996 bearing patent number US5501328A. This invention pertains, in general, to golf bag carrying bags and, specifically, to a cover for the throat structure of a golf bag.

The golf bag of the present invention comprises a body with an open top end and a closed bottom end, and the cover for use with it is provided. A golf bag neck structure cover is designed so that it can be removed from the structure with ease and put back on.

The cover has two parts: an inner component that covers the throat structure’s cross bars, and an outside portion that covers a peripheral ring. The first side wall of the cover’s outer half is located inside the peripheral ring, the second side wall is located outside the ring, and the top wall connects the side walls.

An internal lip that extends around the circumference of the throat structure on the peripheral ring is positioned to interlock with a material strip fixed on the first side wall. The cover inner component has a cross section that is essentially U-shaped and is attached to the throat structure’s cross bars by means of two flanges that are fastened together detachably.
