TODAY’S PATENT – TRAILER MOUNTED LOG SPLITTER
This was invented by Paul L. Staver (Meriden, IA). It was patented by the USPTO on March 20, 1984 bearing patent number US4437502A. The present invention relates generally to log splitting devices and more particularly to a mobile log splitter with splitting, hauling and unloading functions performed by a single piece of equipment.
In the past, movable log splitters that can be transported to the harvest site were created so that the splitting and cutting could happen in one place. While these devices have generally done a satisfactory job of splitting logs, they have always needed additional transportation equipment, such a truck or automobile and trailer.
For the average householder or small-scale business owner, the expenses and time spent on gathering, splitting, transporting, and unloading firewood soon surpass the benefits of using this readily available and reasonably priced fuel source. Furthermore, manual unloading has always been necessary due to the additional hauling equipment needed, which adds to the time and cost involved.
Consequently, the current invention offers a single unit mechanism that splits, loads, and transports firewood, enabling the user to prepare firewood for home use with the least amount of money and labour. The goal of this innovation is to create a trailer/log splitter that uses the log splitter’s power mechanism to unload firewood once it has been transported. Another goal is to supply a trailer/log splitter that uses sections of the trailer as a hydraulic fluid reservoir.
