TODAY’S PATENT – STRIP-TILL KNIFE WITH WINGS
The Strip-till knife with wings was invented by Michael G. Kovach. The application was granted by USPTO on 3rd August 2021 bearing patent no. US11076522B2. This patent has been assigned to CNH Industrial America LLC.
Farmers use fertiliser knives to make holes in the soil so that fertiliser can get into the ground. In strip-till farming, seeds and fertiliser are planted in a berm of loose soil. The strip-till knife with a body attached to a shank, a knife edge, wings, and a tube for delivering agricultural products. A strip-till farming knife has wings on both sides of the knife edge. These wings break and raise the soil in a wider path behind the knife to make a berm. The blade is replaced by a single pin, and the knife can be moved back and forth on a supporting shank to avoid damage from rocks or tree roots. To avoid crimping, providing a tube for delivering agricultural products that extends from the back of the body and is used to drop agricultural products into the berm.
