Today’s Patent – Split Reel and Handler System
The said invention (US12098600B2) was invented by Philippe QUERO, and Eric Bivens, and patented by USPTO on October 10th, 2023. Currently, it stands assigned to the Halliburton Energy Services Inc.
This invention describes a reel assembly for storing and handling conduits. The assembly includes a housing, a drum core divided into two partitions by a splitter flange, and two conduits wound on the respective partitions. A conduit handler system is used to connect or test the conduits using actuating pistons that apply compressive or tensile force. This reel assembly can be used in various applications, such as oil and gas exploration and production. In oil wells, production tubing, which may be coiled tubing stored on a reel, is installed or removed from the well using an injector. The reel assembly described in this invention can be used to store and handle the production tubing.
The conduits can be inserted into wellbores without needing to adjust the guide arch, as their angle and originating location are substantially the same. This feature is particularly useful when different diameter conduits are required for different sections of a well. For example, a larger diameter conduit can be stored on one partition, while a smaller diameter conduit can be stored on the other. This allows for seamless switching between conduits without the need to use multiple reel assemblies.
