TODAY’S PATENT – SELF-STEERING ANTENNA ARRAY
The self-steering antenna array was invented by Robert Evan Myer and was assigned AT&T Corp & Nokia of America Corp. on 28th December 1995 which was later granted patent on 9th February 1999 by the USPTO bearing the patent grant number. US5870681A.
This device includes a number of antennas for receiving and generating electromagnetic signals as well as a number of receivers for processing the signals after they have been received. Each of the numerous receivers matches a particular one of the numerous antennas. The electromagnetic signal received by the matching antenna is shown by the signal strength information provided by each receiver. The antenna that is receiving the strongest electromagnetic signal is identified by a comparator that compares the signal strength information provided by each receiver.
Depending on the comparison made by the comparator, switching circuitry switches the electromagnetic signals that are being received and the signals that are going to be emitted. Using the comparison, the switching circuitry chooses one of the several antennas to produce and receive the electromagnetic signals.
