TODAY’S PATENT – NEEDLE SAFETY DEVICES
The Needle safety devices was invented by Barry Peter Liversidge. This was granted patent by USPTO on 28th August 2018 bearing patent no. US10058660B2. This invention was assigned to Tip-Topcom Ltd.
A safety device for a medical injector that holds a needle pointing forward from the front of the injector has a tubular sleeve that can slide back to expose at least the tip of a supported needle. The sleeve has a forward end that touches the injection site, and a needle cover that can be removed is attached to that forward end.
The sleeve has an external end face that lies in a radial plane and has a hole through which a needle protrudes when the sleeve slides backward. The removable cover makes a seal at the front end of the sleeve. The cover could also be held on by friction to the front end of the sleeve, or it could have a hole into which an enlargement member could be pressed to make the cover bigger inside the sleeve and connect it to the sleeve.
