TODAY’S PATENT – MEDICAL SECURING TAPE
This was invented by Dennis R. Tollini (Williamsville, NY). It was patented by the USPTO on March 24, 1992 bearing patent number US5098399A. An enhanced medical securing tape for attaching a catheter, intravenous needle, tubing, or other similar medical device to a patient’s skin or to another support is the subject of the current invention.
This includes an elongated tape with base portions and a central tab that extends outward from its central portion; pressure-sensitive tape on the base portions and on the tab; and hook and pile fastener portions on opposite sides of the exposed adhesive on the tab and on the base portion facing the exposed adhesive.
Creating a pressure-sensitive tape strip with release paper on it, cutting a window in the middle of the tape, and removing the release paper from the middle of the pressure-sensitive tape strip are the stages involved in creating a securing tape.-sensitive tape, folding the middle section inward to create pressure that is exposed on the face-sensitive adhesive parts to stick to one another and create a pressure-sensitive tape window that is defined by the window that was cut out, with the remaining portion of the strip serving as a base; securing hook and pile fastener material on opposing sides of the pressure-sensitive tape window on the tab and on the section of the securing tape that is adjacent to it and forms a base.
