Today’s Patent – Mattress Control System
The said invention was invented by Rob Nunn, Wade Daniel Palashewski, Matthew Wayne Tilstra, Stacy Marie Stusynski, Steven Jay Young, Carl Hewitt, and patented by USPTO on July 25th, 2024. Currently, it stands assigned to the Sleep Number Corp.

This invention describes a bed system designed to wake a user by adjusting the sleep environment through coordinated thermal and motion-based stimuli. The system includes a mattress pad with multiple zones, a fluid pump, a temperature controller, and at least one processor running software that activates user-defined wake settings. These settings include a dual alarm mode combining a wake temperature and a wake motion. At a specified wake time, the system adjusts the pad’s temperature and activates localized vibration to gently rouse the user. These features may be adjusted based on sleep state, user presence, or manual inputs received from a paired smartphone app.
The system supports advanced capabilities such as sleep monitoring, temperature modulation via fluid flow, and vibration intensity adjustment. It can disable alarms when no user is detected and tailor the wake sequence to the user’s sleep phase for a more natural wake-up experience. With support for networked communication, firmware updates, and voice command integration, this smart bed platform enhances user comfort while offering a minimally invasive and customizable alarm alternative.
