TODAY’S PATENT – GOLF CLUB HEAD
The said invention (US11872454B2) was invented by Nathan T. Sargent, Joseph Reeve Nielson, Matthew David Johnson, Matthew Greensmith, Todd P. Beach, and Michael Franz on 18th September 2012 . Currently; it stands assigned to TaylorMade Golf Co Inc.
The golf club head features a sole with a recessed sole port and a rotatably adjustable sole piece that fits within the sole port. This sole piece includes a central body with multiple contact surfaces, which are offset along a central axis, allowing it to be positioned in five or more rotational and axial positions. Each position ensures that at least one contact surface interacts with the sole port to establish the axial position. Both the sole port and sole piece can have a generally pentagonal shape, facilitating adjustments in club performance.
Given the variety of golfing needs, such as shaft length and flex, golfers often face challenges in modifying their clubs, as shafts and heads are typically manufactured separately and attached with adhesive, making replacements difficult. While some golf clubs feature removable heads for easier adjustments, as seen in Cackett’s patent, these designs must maintain the structural integrity and rigidity of traditional connections. This presents opportunities for improvement in creating more user-friendly, adjustable golf club components that meet golfers’ evolving needs.
