TODAY’S PATENT – DISPLAY DEVICE
Display Device (US10636864B2) was invented by Hun Kim, Yong Jin Kim, Soon Jung WANG, Keun Soo Lee, Jae Ho Lee and Kyung Chan Chae and patented by USPTO on April 28th, 2020. Currently, it stands assigned to Samsung Display Co Ltd.
Despite advancements in both flat and partially curved display technologies, stress-induced cracks can lead to malfunctions, underscoring the significance of precise crack detection. In most existing vehicles, users stand on a flat foot platform and manipulate the handlebar, however, users cannot control the vehicle solely with their feet.
Two inventive display device designs boast crack detection features for heightened durability. One version includes an OLED on a base layer, along with a first crack detection line in the non-display area. Another design features a thin-film transistor and a crack detection pattern between the base layer’s edge and the data line. Both configurations employ inversely tapered cross-sectional shapes for improved crack detection, promising extended device lifespan.
