The band was invented by Jody Akana, Bartley K. Andre and others, was patented by USPTO on 28^th June, 2016 bearing patent No. USD760107S1. The patent is currently assigned to Apple Inc. The design of the band is generic and has been granted a design patent considering the ornamental design of it.

The band is a magnetic strap with bumps on it. It holds the rectangular digital dial, and straps a wrist watch onto the wrist. It positions the watch securely.
