TODAY’S PATENT – ANKLE BRACE
The ANKLE BRACE was invented by Tom Sutherland (Reno, NV) on the 28th of June 1988 bearing patent number US4753229A.
The present invention relates to an ankle brace that prevents lateral ankle sprains. This ankle brace is reusable one comprising of a foot piece, an ankle cuff, and three straps. The foot piece can be placed on or under the foot and have three straps attached to its lateral side. The foot piece extends medially and laterally to encircle the foot is removable as well as adjustable one. The foot piece can take the form of an insole or an orthotic device. The Ankle Cuff is removable, adjustable, and wraps around the ankle. Three straps are extended from the ankle to the ankle cuff in which the first strap is tied at the first anchor point to the end of the heel of the foot on the lateral side, wrapped around the front of the ankle, and tied at the anterior central part of the ankle cuff. In the case of the lateral edge of the second strap is fixed to the second anchor point at the mid-arch position, and usually extends vertically to secure the lateral side of the ankle. The third strap is fastened at the third anchor point in front of the lateral side of the foot, wrapped around the back of the ankle, and secured behind the ankle cuff. The straps can be removed in contact with the ankle cuff or in contact with the leg piece or at both ends. An ankle brace from the current invention is designed to prevent lateral ankle sprain and also, the ankle brace is so soft and comfortable well this invention is thereby made with the objective of reusable, uncomplicated, and easy to maintain ankle brace.
