TODAY’S PATENT – ACTIVATABLE CRISPR/CAS9 FOR SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL CONTROL OF GENOME EDITING
Today’s patent was granted patent on January 4, 2022, bearing patent no. 11214779.
The genetically encoded Cas9 created here was placed at a precise position with an activatable lysine amino acid and is light- or chemically triggered. These activated Cas9 proteins can be used in CRISPR/Cas9 systems to control gene expression spatially, temporally, or both.
Several systems, approaches, kits, and compositions are available for the alteration of sequences and/or the actions of target sequences. Additionally, tactics for carefully picking which cells to introduce mutations into using the CRISPR/Cas9 system are provided, as well as methods for directing the formation of CRISPR complexes in cells.
