PATENT OF THE WEEK – YOGA MAT
This yoga mat was invented by Paul Mross (Belleville, WI), Paul D. Smith (Belleville, WI). It was patented by the USPTO on November 15, 2022, bearing patent number USD969516S1.
This patent was assigned to HAPPY WELLNESS, LLC (Belleville, WI). Their claim is the ornamental design for a yoga mat, as shown and described.
This invention relates to a yoga mat. To help teachers and students, therapists and patients, the Happy Wellness Yoga Mat© offers visual reference points. The Advanced Measurement mat makes it simple to track hands and feet positioning and angles for evaluations.
The Happy Advanced Measurement Mat has five useful design markings that you may use as a guide. Four foot corners, the midline and centre line, the placement of the foot, the side numbers, and the corner marks. The mats are comfortably 1/4″ thick, 72″ x 24″ wide, and weigh around 3 pounds. They have a mesh central membrane for structural stability and a soft cushion feel.
Working with the deaf and hard of hearing communities allowed for the realization of the Happy Mat. Some of the pupils struggled to grasp fundamental ideas like where to put their feet. Paul Mross got an idea for a more useful use of the standard yoga mat after he cut out images of feet and placed them on their mats. Their first Happy Mat was created from that formation, and it had a measuring tape attached to the edges for impartial evaluations.
