TODAY’S PATENT – BREATHING FACE MASK

It is important that a face mask fits the face properly as the comfort of the wearer is a significant factor to him. Dudley W. Watkins, Jr., received his patent for the invention “Breathing face mask” (US4069516A) by the USPTO on 24th January 1978.

This invention relates particularly to breathing face masks which seals against the face of a user and excludes the ambient environment from those portions of the face which are confined by the mask.

Generally, face masks are not custom made as they are made in an extremely limited number of shapes and sizes, intended for use. The wide range in shape and size of the human face makes it difficult to provide a mask that will comfortably fit a variety of users, particularly with the masks designed to provide wide-angle vision.

The primary objective of this invention is to provide a mask having a full vision facepiece and a comfortable, gas-tight fit against the face. Further, it is practical to manufacture and inexpensive as compared to the prior art inventions.
