Today’s Patent – Rotary Wing Aircraft
The said invention (US12258121B2) was invented by Axel Fink, Manuel KEMPF, Philipp WALCH, Luca SPECHT and patented by USPTO on May 5th, 2023. Currently, it stands assigned to the Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH.

The disclosure relates to a rotary wing aircraft with a fuselage separated from the upper deck by an upper primary skin. The upper deck houses at least one engine within a firewall arrangement that includes a funnel-shaped lower firewall between the engine and the skin. This design improves fire protection by directing heat and fluids away from key structures and includes a drainage point. Engines are mounted via isostatic fixation points to minimize stress from thermal or elastic deformation. Compared to conventional titanium decks, the funnel-shaped firewall offers enhanced safety, structural integrity, and compliance with fireproofing standards.
