Today’s Patent – Adjustable Holographic Metamaterial Antenna Structure
The said invention (US12074384B1) was invented by Tianrui Zheng, Zhongchao Luo, He Cai, Ran Mo, Fawen Rong, Xu Zhao, and patented by USPTO on October 8th, 2023. Currently, it stands assigned to the Chengdu Guoheng Space Technology Engineering Co Ltd.
This invention addresses the limitations of traditional holographic metamaterial antennas, which often have complex feed network layouts and interference issues. The proposed design incorporates a surface waveguide feed network, a varactor diode bias circuit, and a metamaterial surface. This configuration allows for individual bias feeding to each varactor diode and enables scanning of the radiation pattern. The invention offers several advantages, including the ability to match the size of the surface waveguide feed network to the metamaterial surface, the use of a wire grid as a bias line for the lattice units on the metamaterial surface, and the separate arrangement of varactor diodes within each lattice unit. This design ensures precise direct current bias feeding to each varactor diode and enables efficient scanning of the radiation pattern.
The wire grid bias circuit is formed using parallel metal wires, and the metamaterial surface and wire grid bias circuit can be integrated onto a single PCB board. Additionally, an adjustable unit can be connected to the wire grid bias circuit to allow for further customization of the antenna’s performance.
