Today's Patent - Locating fastener for firearm optic

When an optic is mounted on a firearm, it may require the firearm to be re-zeroed if the optic is removed and reattached. To avoid this, some firearms use rail-mounting systems that allow the optic to slide on the rail. While these systems eliminate the need for re-zeroing after optic removal and reattachment, they often require specific rail-mounted optics.

A new solution involves a locating optic assembly mount that can hold an optic or a bracket with the optic attached. This mount has locating fastener openings with both threaded and non-threaded sections. The non-threaded sections extend below the optic or bracket and fit into counter openings in the mount. This ensures that the optic is always aligned correctly, preventing the need for re-zeroing even after the optic is removed and reattached.
