TODAY’S PATENT – LAWN CARE ROBOT

The present invention relates to an autonomous robot to perform lawn care tasks. It has been invented by several scientists namely Paul E. Sandin, Joseph, L. Jones, Daniel N. Ozick, David A. Cohen, David M. Lewis, Clara Vu, Zivthan, A. Dubrovsky, Joshua B. Preneta, Jeffrey W. Mammen, Duane L. Gilbert, Tony L. Campbell, and John Bergman. They got it patented by the USPTO on the 2nd June, 2015, bearing patent number US9043953B2.

The lawn care robot consists of the following most significant parts:

• A body with a drive system
• A grass cutter
• A swath edge detector

The drive system helps in movement of the robot within a confined area. The swath edge detector helps detect the swath between the cut and uncut grass which helps the cutter to maintain precision in grass cutting thereby giving a uniform look. The drive system keeps following the detected swath edge and causes movement in the body of the robot accordingly. The drive system defines the movement of the robot ensuring that it neither encroaches upon neighbouring field nor damages the non-grassy area surrounding the lawn. The object of this invention is to provide non-complex autonomous robots for the ease of household functions like lawn cutting.
