TODAY’S PATENT – CAMERA SYSTEM
Camera System invention (US9621770B2) was invented by Joergen Geerds, patented by USPTO on April 11th, 2017.
In recent years, spherical imaging, like Virtual Reality (VR) photography, has shifted from still to moving pictures, now often called spherical or 360-degree video. Cameras with multiple sensors, such as LadyBug by Point Grey and Dodeca by Immersive Media, capture only a half-circle around them, leaving a blind spot where things like poles can block the view.
The said invention consists of a camera system consisting of a frame with multiple mounts, each holding a camera at a different lens orientation.
This setup ensures that each camera captures a unique field of view outward from the frame. By using this system, spherical images or videos can be captured without any obstructions like a hole at the bottom or physical support elements interfering. These obstructions are either eliminated or minimized in size during the digital stitching process of the image or video.
