PATENT OF THE WEEK – DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING INTERWEAVING KNOTS

The device and methods for producing interweaving knots was invented by Mathias Stundl. This invention was granted patent by USPTO on 12th August 2014 bearing patent no. US8800123B2.  This patent has been assigned to the Oerlikon Textile GmbH and Co. KG.

PATENT OF THE WEEK - DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING INTERWEAVING KNOTS

The goal of the invention is to make a tool and method for making interwoven knots that make knots that are tight and strong. The inlet thread guide and outlet thread guide are set up so that they are mirror images of each other on the annular nozzle. The chamber opening on the stator can be made to be symmetrical or not.

Depending on how tight the thread is, the contact wrap angle of the guiding groove can be anywhere from 12° to 180°. The present invention is a device and method for making interweaving knots on multi-filament threads that are strong and easy to recognize. It works well for swirling BCF yarns because the circumferential speed of the annular nozzle can be set to be less than the speed of the thread by a factor between 0.35 and 0.80. When used at speeds above 3000 m/min, it is especially good for making a lot of strong, distinctive interweaving knots.
