TODAY’S PATENT – TONE ALLOCATION IN MULTIPOINT-TO-POINT COMMUNICATION USING ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING

The invention relates to the field of electronic communication systems and provides systems and methods for OFDM tone allocation. In one embodiment, an end-user communication device comprises a first remote unit that communicates with a host unit using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The host unit is communicatively coupled to several remote units in a multipoint-to-point configuration, where the OFDM waveform from different remote units combines to a unified OFDM waveform at the host unit. The invention also provides an improved method and apparatus for providing a fast Fourier transform (FFT).

TONE ALLOCATION IN MULTIPOINT-TO-POINT COMMUNICATION USING ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING

The inventors of this invention are Michael J. Geile, Jeffrey Brede, and Harold A. Roberts. The USPTO granted the patent on July 13th, 2010, with the serial number US7756060B2. The invention improves the OFDM tone allocation system, providing better communication between different remote units and the host unit. The FFT method and apparatus facilitate a more efficient allocation of OFDM tones, improving the overall performance of the communication system.
