TODAY’S PATENT – SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHILLING INLET AIR FOR GAS TURBINES

The present invention is a method for chilling air. This invention was invented by Pierson, Thomas L. (Sugar Land, XL). The invention was issued on March 18, 2008. The patent number of this invention is US USRE44815E1.

The invention is about cooling inlet air to a  gas turbine. The gas turbine system includes an air compressor for comprising the turbine, a combustion chamber for mixing a compressed air with fuel through this producing combustion gas, and a power turbine which works with the help of combustion gas. One way to increase the power of the turbine is to cool the inlet air of the turbine and compress it with the help of a compressor. Cooling can cause a high density of air and through this, the turbine produces a higher mass flow rate.

Many other systems have been devised for chilling the inlet air with the help of evaporative cooling, in this process, cold water is run on the plates inside the chamber thereby creating thin films of water on each plate and after that, the inlet air is tired together with the chamber and through evaporative cooling, the air is cooled.  The new invention relates to an air-chilling inlet passing through a cooling coil.
