TODAY’S PATENT – BROADBAND DATA BROADCASTING SERVICE

This invention “Broadband data broadcasting service “was invented jointly by Tsutomu Shimomura, Steve Waltman, Mark Peting, Castor Fu, Dag H. Johansen, Geoff Mulligan which was assigned to Vulcan Ventures Inc & Arris Enterprises LLC. This invention was granted patent on 25^th February 2003 bearing the patent grant number. US6526580B2 by the USPTO.

A broadband data broadcast system is which that enables the delivery of rich multimedia content to numerous subscribers is disclosed. A number of rich multimedia digital information streams are multiplexed at a centralized data broadcast center to operate the broadband data broadcast system. The multiplexed digital information stream is then broadcast by the data broadcast centre over a broadcast medium, like satellite broadcasts, radio frequency broadcasts, or digital television broadcasts. The broadcast signal is received by a large number of receiver systems, which then demodulate the signal to recover the multiplexed digital stream.

The receiver system extracts a portion of the digital information streams that have been flagged as being interesting by the owner of that specific receiver system. The interesting digital information stream is cached by the receiver system for later access. The interesting digital information streams are output by the receiver system to a client system as needed. An incoming digital information stream may also be streamed to a client by the receiver system as it is being received.
