TODAY’S PATENT – GATE LATCH ASSEMBLY

The Gate latch assembly was invented by Andrew W. Marsden and Richard M. Bastien on the 8th of December 2009, bearing patent number US7627985B2. The current assignee of this invention is Dorel Juvenile Group Inc, a company known for making juvenile products based in Indiana.

A gate latch assembly is mounted to a gate mount for movement between an opened and a closed position. It includes a hand-operated latch assembly for mating with the gate mount to lock the gate in the closed position, usually for gates in regular dwelling houses. a latch mounted on the gate, the latch having a latch retraction pin and a plunger post connected to it, the plunger post being biased to an extended position by a spring connected to the post carrier and to the gate, and the post carrier additionally having a peripherally enclosed opening with a plurality of walls, one of the walls forming a substantially linear latch retraction ramp and wall sections of two of the other remaining plurality of walls.

The objective of this invention was to bring accessible latching systems for gates, for juveniles especially in settings like that of a household or a school.
