PATENT OF THE WEEK – BACKPACK
The BACKPACK was invented by Frank M. Noice (Big Fork, MT) on the 27th of June 1978 bearing patent number US4096978A.
The present invention is a backpack which is a flexible one containing a load to be accrued and has an adjustable length connection means that extends across the interior of the bag and interconnects the front and rear thereof. Generally, backpacks are easier to carry when the center of gravity of the load is between the packer’s shoulder and waist. One of the difficulties encountered when using traditional backpacks is that the weight contained in the pack often accumulates as the pack shakes when carried. In this invention, there is an improvement of backpacks that is the adjustable length connection or adjustment extends to the inside of the bag and connects its front and back to vary the effective size of the bag by adjusting the length of the said connection means. Adjustable length connections are used to connect the front and back of the bag. The Connection or adjustment means, includes a single strap, a pair of vertical straps, or a laced cord attached to a partial or complete septum attached to the inner surfaces of the front and back of the bag. And this connection or adjustment means may be one or more wires, each extending through a hole in the front or back, opposite or front or back of the bag, that is the cord can be accessed from outside the bag. Along with this, this invention is user-oriented.
