TODAY’S PATENT – CONTAINER CRUSHING DEVICE

The CONTAINER CRUSHING DEVICE was invented by Garrett W. Kurtz (Durango, CO) on the 8th of June, 1982 bearing patent number US4333395A.

The present invention relates to devices used for crushing metal containers majorly cylindrical metal cans to facilitate recycling of the same. The crushing device container has a base as well as an operating lever that is secured pivotally. The base has a shoe-sized base to receive one end of a metal container also a pair of correspondingly configured and sized support arms parallelly extended outward. The operating lever is secured pivotally to the support arms and has a crushing shoe at one end thereof. The crushing shoe has an annular groove formed in one face thereof, defining a raised central portion having a beveled edge and a raised annular portion. The groove is sized to receive the other end of a metal container, the beveled edge serving to aid in positioning the other container end within the groove. A collector may be secured to the base to provide a receptacle for collecting crushed cans. Thus, this invention proved to be helpful in recycling.
