TODAY’S PATENT – METHOD OF MAKING A HEAT SHIELD

The Method of making a Heating Shield was invented by Donald A. Nawrocki, Joseph Pfeifer and Michael Scislowicz on December 1, 1992 bearing patent number US5167060A.

The present invention is directed to a heat shield, and more particularly to a heat shield for use in a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, such as an automobile or truck. The present invention is also directed to a method for making such a heat shield.

The object of the invention is to provide a heat shield having a plurality of members which are made from sheet material, the members being secured to one another to form an intermediate product by flanges which extend from one of the members, the intermediate product being bent to achieve the desired configuration using a press equipped with staged, mobile forming dies.

Another object of the invention is to provide a heat shield having a plurality of members which are disposed in layers and which are secured to one another by flanges, the heat shield additionally having a support with a spine which is sandwiched between the layers and mounting legs which extend through gaps between the flanges.
