TODAY’S PATENT- ARTICULATED FLIPPERS FOR HANDS AND FEET, WITH A SURFACE VARIABLE DURING SWIMMING

This device was invented by Giovanni M. Carbone. The USPTO granted it patent (4264994) on 5th May 1981.

A flipper is a broad, flat, rubber paddle without fingers, worn on foot by swimmers especially for underwater swimming.

The invention relates to flippers worn by swimmers on feet as well as hands. It is worn by professionals, amateur and especially scuba divers/underwater swimmers. The flat, broad flippers provide maximum area for maximum thrust. The feet flippers have elastic ribs for support of the surface. These flippers are especially convenient to walk on.

The hand flippers have prolongations for only four fingers excluding the thumb. This will facilitate easy bending of the hands while swimming and will also enable him to grip/hold objects easily. While opening and closing, the hand flipper will have the same function as that of the feet which affords swimmers great feeling of security.

These flippers are extremely flexible which enables swimmers to draw back and push the limb very easily. It allows maximum variation in the friction created; it reduces to a minimum at the draw-back stage and increases to a maximum at the push stage. More the flexibility of the limb, better the friction and movement.
