TODAY’S PATENT – DESCALING DEVICE

In today’s patent, we will discuss Thomas A. Gardner (Fairview Park, OH)’s invention, “Descaling Device” (US5010632A), which was patented by the USPTO on April 30 1991.

The present invention relates generally to devices for removing rust, scale, slag, paint, cement, or other foreign substances from the surface of metal, wood, stone.Generally the following invention is used with a pneumatic tool for descaling entangled and/or irregular surfaces.The tool here comprises of an elongated shank, one end having an adapter for receipt into a reciprocating hammer and the other having a bore therein in order to receive a bundle of elongated, resilient descaling members. The shank is encased by a sleeve and handle assembly which is used to adjust the exposed portion of the descaling members.The descaling operation is performed by the free ends of the needles being repeatedly propelled against the work surface in order to be cleaned.The aforesaid invention is very easy to use and is an inexpensive tool to manufacture.
