TODAY’S PATENT – GRAIN DOOR
“Grain door” is a removable device which is used in boxcars to prevent leakage. It was invented by Donald James F. who received his patent from the USPTO on 25th March 1985, bearing the patent number US3958515A.
The present invention relates to an improved method of barricading the inner door of a railway boxcar for the purpose of containing granular materials such as grain, coal etc. This barricade is sufficiently strong to withstand the pressure of the granula material contained in the boxcar without bulging to the outer storm door.
The main objective of this invention is to be economical enough to be disposed after dumping. It is also light and easy to install as the inner door is usually installed at the loading point by one man.
